IT centre to be set up in capital

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and South Korea have decided to establish an information technology centre in Islamabad to train youth in new disciplines and trades.

In this regard a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by National Vocational and Technical Education Commission (Navtec) Executive Director Aziz Bilour and Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) representative Jeoon Jun here on Thursday.

Under the accord South Korean government will provide $3 million for the construction and equipments of the centre, named as Pak-Korea Information Technology Centre. A piece of land for the centre would be provided by the Pakistani government in sector H-9, while the Korean government will also provide the operation cost of the centre, whereas the Navtec would help in its operation.

Speaking on the occasion, NAVTEC Chairman Adnan A. Khwaja said such joint ventures would further strengthen ties between the two countries.

He said the youth trained in this centre would be accommodated in multi-national companies of South Korea.

A six-member team of experts from Korea was on a week-long visit here to finalise the details of the project. During their stay, they were shown various technical institutes where different training courses were undertaken.
