Journalist Chaudhry Ikhlaq Shot in Gujar Khan; Reported to be in Stable Condition

On the evening of May 30, Chaudhry Ikhlaq, a journalist with Daily Express and a member of the Bewal Press Club, was shot and wounded by two unidentified motorcyclists near Takal Bridge on Choa Khalsa Bewal Road in Gujar Khan, Punjab, as he was driving home. Ikhlaq is reported to be in stable condition.

Ikhlaq sustained a bullet wound near his shoulder and was taken to THQ Gujar Khan Hospital for treatment. Ikhlaq had previously received threats linked to his journalistic work, particularly his coverage concerning issues faced by overseas Pakistanis. 

Potohar Press Club Gujar Khan Chairman Shahzad Qureshi described the attack as a direct assault on freedom of speech and called for a comprehensive investigation. In response to the incident, local police have initiated an investigation.

Shortly after hearing about the shooting involving her son, Ikhlaq’s mother passed away.
