ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist Majid Fauz died of cardiac arrest here on Tuesday morning at the age of 67. He leaves behind two sons, two daughters and large number of colleagues and friends.
He was laid to rest at a graveyard in Pakistan Town, PWD Colony in the evening after offering his funeral prayers. A large number of journalists and friends participated in his funeral.
He suffered heart stroke and was admitted to the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (AFIC) four days ago. He was discharged from the hospital after his condition became stable. On Monday night, he again suffered heart attack and died on way to the hospital. Majid Fauz was in the federal capital to attend the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists’ Federal Council meeting.
Late Majid Fauz was born in Quetta in 1942. After completion of his education, he joined journalism and remained in the profession for over four decades.
Majid Fauz, who was based at Quetta, started his journalistic career from Urdu daily Mashriq and also worked for other newspapers, including Intikhaab, Jasarat, Ummat and weekly Urdu news magazine Al-Fatah.
He held various offices of journalistic organisations, including PFUJ, Apnec and Balochistan Union of Journalists for quite long.
Majid Fauz was considered to be one of the most vocal and active leaders of journalists in Balochistan. Throughout his over four decade’s journalistic carrier, he fought for the cause of the freedom of the press, rule of law and economic rights of the mediapersons.
The office-bearers of various unions of journalists and press clubs condoled his death and said his services for the cause of freedom of the press and trade unions would always be remembered.
PFUJ president Pervaiz Shaukat and others expressed sorrow over the sudden demise of Majid Fauz and termed it a great loss to the media community.
