ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday said the appointment of judges in the superior judiciary would be made in accordance with the law but ruled out any time frame for the same.

“I cannot give a time frame,” he said in response to a question during a brief chat with media persons after the balloting ceremony of plots in Sector I-16 and the inauguration of Rs 240 million 10-km-long water conduction main for 16 sectors of the capital here.

Gilani reiterated that thecomposite dialogue between Pakistan and India was the only way forward for the resolution of all outstanding issues. “Dialogue is the only way to resolve problems between civilised nations,” he said.

Asked if India does not want talks on the Kashmir issue, he said: “We should wait for suggestions from the Indian side regarding the resumption of the composite dialogue.” He said the Foreign Office and the foreign affairs secretary were in contact with India, adding, “We should not be in a haste for the dialogue outcome.”

APP adds: Meanwhile, talking to Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Tariq Majid, Prime Minister Gilani said Pakistan was pursuing a policy of peaceful coexistence with its neighbours and would maintain minimum credible deterrence for ensuring stability in the region.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Prime Minister House on Thursday denying media reports said it has not yet received any summary regarding the appointment of judges. A brief statement from the PM House referred to reports in some sections of the media stating that the Law Ministry has finalised and dispatched a summary for appointment of judges for the prime minister, and stated “PM’s office has not yet received any summary regarding the appointment of judges.”
