KHAIRPUR: District Nazim on Wednesday announced setting up of coordination committees at the police stations to maintain law and order and settle disputes through reconciliation instead of registering FIRs.

Addressing a peace committee meeting, Nazim Pir Niaz Shah Jillani said with the setting up of the committees working of the police will be checked and monitored.

He asked the DPO Khairpur to respect the elected representatives when they visit police stations and solve their genuine problems on top priority.

He pointed out that many Nazims had registered complaints at his office that SHOs and TPOs were not cooperating with them and issuing threats of dire consequences when they visit police stations.

The Nazim warned the police officials to correct their behaviour and directed the district police chief not to book the elite in the FIRs as it is triggering tribal feuds.

DPO Din Muhammad Baloch told the Nazim that he will correct the behaviour of the SHOs with the cooperation of the elected representatives and in this regard he required free hand. He appealed to the elected representatives not to interfere in his style of work. He assured the meeting that he will make the law and order situation of Khairpur satisfactory.
