Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Irrigation Aqibullah Khan noted the “extremely trying and dangerous situation” in which journalists in tribal regions work while noting the physical and monetary losses they face.

During his speech at the oath-taking ceremony for the newly-elected officials of the Bara Press Club, Khan said tribal journalists serve as vital links between the government and the tribal communities while “bravely” covering issues of terrorism-affected areas. “It is the main duty and responsibility of tribal journalists to convey right and accurate information to both the people and the government functionaries,” he added.

The minister reassured the journalists of the government’s commitment to support them. He said that the KP government had issued grants for a press club in each tribal district.

The event was attended by prominent figures, including Sohail Afridi, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Communication and Works; Abdul Ghani Afridi, MPA and Chairman of the District Development Advisory Committee; and other local leaders, traders, and elders.

The new leadership of the Bara Press Club includes President Muhammad Saleem Afridi, Vice-President Jehanzeb Afridi, General Secretary Munir Khan Afridi, Finance Secretary Shafiq Afridi, Joint Secretary Iqbal Afridi, Office Secretary Qadeer Afridi, and Executive Members Aurangzeb Afridi, Ali Akhtar Afridi, and Saeedullah Afridi.

Separately, the governing body of the National Press Club (NPC) in Islamabad congratulated the newly elected officials of the Supreme Court Press Association for their wins in the 2025 elections. The NPC’s president, Azhar Jatoi, along with secretary Nayyar Ali, finance secretary Waqar Abbasi, and other members, extended their best wishes to the new officials, including President Zulqarnain Iqbal, Secretary General Ghulam Nabi Yousafzai, and others.

The NPC officials expressed their confidence in the elected members’ abilities to resolve the issues faced by journalists nationwide and to promote freedom of expression. They also voiced their hope that the new team would advocate for speedy justice and free legal facilities for journalists.
