Local laws for women’s protection urged

KHAIRPUR, August 29 2006: A seminar organized by the Aurat Foundation on community awareness here on Monday called for the need for local laws to check the growing incidence of violence against women and the menace of Karo-Kari. Addressing the seminar, advocates Habibur Rehman Shaikh, Khadim Mirani and Aslam Brohi said the Aurat Foundation was focusing on the issues of women across the country. They said there was need for local-level legislation to curb violence against women. They emphasized that the government should implement the laws meant for the protection of women. The seminar urged the people, especially women, to register their names on new electoral lists.
