LAHORE: A middle-aged woman was shot dead by her brother in the name of “honour” early on Sunday morning in the Sattokatala police precincts, according to the duty officer of Sattokatala police station.
According to the official, Abida, a resident of Sattokatala had married Akram nine years ago. “The couple had three kids. Akram had been unemployed since the last several months, and as a result the couple had shifted to Abida’s father’s — Khushi Muhammad — house, about six months ago,” he said.
The police official told Daily Times that Abida started work as a maid in a nearby house.
Illicit relations: Her younger brother Sanaullah had reservations about her working as maid, and reportedly tried to stop Abida from working. “Several arguments took place and Sanaullah alleged that Abida had established illicit relations with someone in the house that she was working in,” the duty officer said.
Late on Saturday night, the brother and sister exchanged harsh words, until finally their father intervened and settled the argument. “Reportedly, Sanaullah left the house, returning early Sunday morning. He proceeded to his room, where he took out a gun, with which he then shot Abida in the head and fled the scene. The other family members were woken up by the sound of the gunshot and rushed Abida to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead,” he said, adding that a case has been registered on the complaint of Abida’s father and her body has been sent for an autopsy.
Fired on: Separately, a constable was injured late on Saturday night, when two unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle fired at him in the Sandha police precincts.
According to police officials, three constables, including the injured Wasim Shafqat, Zia Ullah and Wakeel Abbas were on their routine patrol duty around Chandni Chowk, when they noticed the two men acting suspiciously on a motorcycle.
“The constables tried to stop them, but the assailants fled. The officials began to chase them on their official motorcycles, to which the two men responded by firing at them. One of the bullets hit Wasim, who fell on the road, allowing the assailants to flee the scene. The other constables shifted Wasim to the Mayo Hospital, where doctors claimed that his life was not in danger.
