FAISALABAD,April 17: A man threw acid on the face of his cousin here on Monday night on rejection of his marriage proposal at Bahaminiwala in Dijkot police precincts.

Reports said Rafaqat wanted to marry his cousin Muniran Bibi of Chak 268-RB, but her parents rejected the proposal and arranged her marriage with Asif of Chak 32-GB. The marriage was solemnised on April 15.

On Monday night, Rafaqat threw acid on the face of Muniran when she came out of her parents’ house. Some family members of the victim were also there to see off the couple. She suffered serious acid-burns and was admitted to the Allied Hospital in a critical condition. Five relatives of Muniran – Zahoor, Surraya Bibi, Saima, Akram and Sharifan Bibi – also sustained injuries and were shifted to the hospital.

A doctor at the Allied Hospital said her right eye was badly damaged. Muniran suffered 30 to 40 per cent burns on her face. Police have registered a case under Section 336 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the written statement of Muniran’s father Rehmat Ali, but no arrest had been made till the filing of the report.
