PESHAWAR — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has said that the circumstances prevailing in the country, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata, are a continued challenge wherein the sacrifices of journalists like other segments of society cannot be denied.
Talking to a 20-member delegation of journalists of Kohat which called on him under the leadership of the President of the Press Club, Kohat here on Friday, the governor said indeed the courageous role and services of the media of country, like democratic societies elsewhere in the world, were appreciable and they felt proud of it.
About the critical situation, the governor said the country police force was neither trained nor had they the resources to cope with these kinds of challenges.
He said in such a situation, the valour and courage of the security forces and the people at large to face the untoward circumstances and their standards of sacrifices were laudable, as they ensured security and image building of the country. No step is being spared to ensure their due recognition at every level, he said. He further pointed out that it was because of such a level of sacrifices that the had been able not only to restore normal life in the society but also reinvigorate the efforts for socio-economic well-being of the people. The development process, Kausar said, in fact demanded continuity of struggle and if the country did not confront the nature of disturbances and hurdles, it would have now achieved new milestones of socio-economic development. “Now we not only have to compensate for the losses but also have to achieve the desired targets and Insha Allah we would also return with due success in this respect,” he maintained.
The governor also said that the sectarian conflicts like non-issues are also the major hurdles in continuing the process of development and progress and we also need to discourage the trends of such types of non-issues. Referring to the certain points raised by members of the delegation, the governor further said special measures ware being taken to ensure complete security in the areas situated along Fata and there would be positive change in this respect.
Talking about the suggestions put forward by the delegation with regard to ensuring better future for the people of Kohat district, the governor said that apart from the steps underway for early launching of construction work on a new bridge at Khushal Garh, work to widen and reconstruct internal roads in Kohat was also underway. About the well being of pressmen of Kohat, the governor assured that apart from ensuring early launching of work on media colony in district Kohat, concrete steps would be taken to further facilitate the journalists of Kohat in fulfilment of their professional responsibilities.
Meanwhile, President Press Club Mumtaz Banguish highlighted the aims and objectives of their meeting. He told the governor the problems faced by the people of the area and also gave proposals for their resolution.
