Sir: The controversy created over an explosive memo that asked for Washington’s help in reining in the Pakistani military allegedly written by Pakistan’s ambassador to the US, Husain Haqqani, on the orders of President Zardari is being blown out of proportion before thorough investigation in the matter.
The role of Pakistan’s electronic media is condemnable as it has crossed its limits and forgotten the ideal of responsible journalism to win the ‘rat race’ of ratings. Turn on your television and you will find anchors of talk shows, political analysts and politicians bent upon further complicating the issue. I totally agree with the sensitivity of the matter.
However, the media, especially the electronic media, should show some restraint in analysing and passing judgements on the issue on their own. They must call for a thorough probe and should not let it become politicised.
