Media Person Imran Riaz Khan Barred From Traveling for Hajj Pilgrimage Despite Court Clearance

Pakistan Press Foundation

Journalist and YouTuber Imran Riaz Khan was prevented from traveling to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj pilgrimage at Islamabad International Airport on June 3, despite a court order explicitly permitting his travel. The Islamabad High Court had cleared Khan to embark on the pilgrimage, overriding his inclusion on the Exit Control List (ECL), a move initiated by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

On May 29, Chief Justice Aamer Farooq of the Islamabad High Court ruled in favor of Khan, allowing him the right to partake in the religious journey after his lawyer argued that Khan’s placement on the ECL was unjust. However, despite this legal relief, authorities at the airport halted his departure under circumstances that remain unspecified as of now.

This incident marks another episode in a series of travel obstructions for Khan, who was first added to the ECL on March 28, following directives from the federal cabinet amid ongoing inquiries by the FIA.

Reacting to the latest development, Khan expressed his determination to challenge the enforcement of the travel ban.
