Media professionals in Chitral trained in inclusive disaster reporting

A two-day workshop on gender and disability-sensitive disaster reporting was conducted in Chitral, organised by the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) in collaboration with Focus Humanitarian Assistance Pakistan.

Journalists from the Chitral Press Club, Radio Pakistan, Hot FM 97, Suno Radio, social media platforms and influencers, attended the training sessions and a field visit to Bumburet Valley.

The training covered disaster reporting, the needs and safety of women and persons with disabilities, ethical and inclusive reporting, and standard operating procedures.

Resource persons Javed Ahmed, Fida Hassan, Mehr Aftab and Karishma highlighted the media’s role in providing responsible and timely information before, during and after disasters.

AKAH Pakistan Regional Programme Manager Engr. Altaf Hussain Shah distributed certificates to participants and stressed the importance of cooperation between journalists and disaster management organisations.

He commended the dedication of local journalists who operate under challenging conditions and underscored the importance of timely dissemination of life-saving information.
