On September 21, Metro One News anchorperson Imtiaz Mir was critically injured after being shot by unidentified assailants near Kala Board in Karachi’s Malir area. The attack occurred near Kala Board, where unknown assailants opened fire, leaving the journalist in critical condition. He was promptly transported to the hospital, where he was placed on a ventilator due to the severity of his injuries.

According to police, a man and a woman riding a motorcycle opened fire on Mir before fleeing the scene. Two bullet casings were recovered. Mir sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and face, and doctors placed him on a ventilator due to the severity of his injuries.

His brother, Waqar Mir, said four armed persons, including a woman, attacked the anchor while he was being chased from Shahrahe Faisal. He stated that one bullet struck his brother’s face, two his ribs, and one his arm. Waqar attributed the assault to an old family feud, despite claiming the matter had been resolved months earlier.

Sindh Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar took notice of the incident and sought a report from the Deputy Inspector General East. He condemned the attack and directed law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of journalists across the province. Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon also condemned the shooting, stating that journalists represent society and assuring that the provincial government had ordered police to arrest the perpetrators.

SSP Korangi Tariq Nawaz visited the crime scene and said the case was being investigated from all possible angles. He confirmed that CCTV footage from the area is being collected and that further details will be available once the injured anchor’s statement is recorded.
