LAHORE: A man sold his nine-year-old daughter for Rs 80,000 to meet the expenses of his son’s wedding in Tuman Buzdar, a tribal tehsil of Dera Ghazi Khan district.
Sources said the local administration and police refused to interfere in the matter, while the constituency MPA, Fateh Muhammad Buzdar, also remained silent over the issue. Jan Muhammad Buzdar, father of nine-year-old Rashida, said it was a tribal tradition to sell daughters in order to meet the expenses of their brothers’ wedding. Jan Muhammad Buzdar and buyer Rafiq Buzdar said it was a mutually agreed upon deal and any third party had no right of interference in the matter. However, residents of Tuman Buzdar said no such tradition existed in the area. They demanded the DG Khan commissioner, DCO and political agent intervene to save the little girl.
