MNAs refused copies of draft Hudood law

ISLAMABAD, August 20 2006: The National Assembly secretariat has refused to provide copies of the amendment bill on Hudood laws and protection of women to assembly members reportedly under the directives of Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain.

Sources said on Saturday (Aug 19) that many treasury and opposition members made rounds of NA legislative branch to collect copies of the bill but the secretariat refused to meet their demand, saying copy of the bill could not be issued before its presentation in the house, as it was against the rules.

The bill will be tabled in the National Assembly on Monday. – Online
