Mobile and internet services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi remained suspended for several days as authorities implemented security measures in response to Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s (TLP) ongoing protest march from Lahore towards the federal capital. Services were later partially restored in some areas on October 12 as the situation evolved.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior on October 9, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) was directed to suspend 3G and 4G mobile data services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi from midnight until further orders. The directive was implemented in coordination with local administrations and police, amid preparations for the TLP’s anti-Israel demonstration.
Officials said that mobile internet services were partially restored in parts of the twin cities after several days of disruption. The authorities stated that the restoration was being carried out gradually as the law and order situation improved.
