MPA demands action against cartoonist

LAHORE: Arif Hussain, MPA, on Saturday drew attention of the house towards an insulting cartoon published about MPAs in a newspaper.

He said that the newspapers have no right to insult members of the house and they should follow the code of conduct.

Acting Speaker Sardar Hassan Akhter Mokal in his ruling said that Information Minister should inquire into the matter.

He said freedom of expression was right of the newspapers but no one can be given liberty to insult elected representatives of the people. He urged the newspapers not to print any thing which can hurt feelings of others.

Provincial Information Minister Raja Basharat said that newspapers were not under control of the government.

The newspaper, which has published the said cartoon, was a responsible newspaper, and added that he would contact to the said cartoonist and present outcome of his meeting with him before the house. APP
