SUKKUR: Staff of the Civil Hospital Mirpur Mathelo again attacked and injured four journalists during a demonstration here on Thursday.
They were demanding arrest and prosecution of head clerk and seven others who had earlier thrashed journalists for covering members of the civil society and activists of PPP-SB protesting against shortage of medicines and absence of doctors in the hospital on Tuesday.
The injured journalists were Maqbool Bozdar, Ashraf Shah, Barkat Mirani and a cameraman namely Dolha Darya Minarhas.
According to sources, more than 50 journalists from print and electronic media were protesting against the police and district administration of Ghotki for their failure to arrest the attackers who had used batons against them on Tuesday.
According to Ghotki-based journalists, a number of people, allegedly supervised by the Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Mirpur Mathelo, Shahab Sheikh, attacked them on Thursday.
After the attack, a large number journalists marched on the National Highway and blocked it for hours by staging a sit-in.
Later, the Deputy District Officer (Coordination) Mehtab Ahmed, along with Deputy Superintendent of Police Mirpur Mathelo Abbas Shah, reached there and negotiated with the protesting media men and assured them that action would be taken against the MS and those involved in illegal shifting of hospital property to a private clinic.
