KARACHI (August 23 2006): Karachi City Nazim Mustafa Kamal, criticising a private TV channel, said on Tuesday (Aug 22) that it was quite unjustified to focus I I Chundrigar Road and Bath Island only as inundated areas, ignoring the rest of the city from where water had been removed.
Talking at a programme of the private TV channel, he asked if the cosmopolitan city comprised of I I Chundrigar Road and Bath Island only. The Nazim said that in 2003, during the reign of previous city government, the situation was worse, and most of city areas including main arteries and I I Chundrigar Road remained submerged for days together. But now, the CDGK efficiently cleared the city within 24 hours and only removing of water from Kharadar, Bath Island and Chundrigar Road was underway.
He said that the media ignored the entire city and focussed just three areas of this mega city which he observed was a planned agenda of a ‘faction’, which the particular TV channel was following to prove somehow as failure of the present CDGK.
After the downpour of Thursday, August 17, it was a common perception among the masses that the civic activities would remain held up for a few days, Kamal said and added that but when the next morning people came out of their houses, they found that water had disappeared from roads, which was an achievement of CDGK that should have been appreciated. Instead, the leading private TV channel was unduly trying to defame the CDGK. The practice he termed against journalistic ethics.
