LAHORE: The National Assembly’s committee on information and broadcast has recommended a ban on Indian channels which are telecasting ‘immoral’ programmes.
“We have to protect our young generation from the onslaught of Indian channels,” said committee chairperson Begum Belium Hasnain.
She said there were a number of Indian entertainment channels which were involved in airing immoral programmes. “We want immediate ban on them and strict action against cable operators in case they do not follow the government instruction,” she said.
Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, Ms Hasnain said the Pakistan Electronic and Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) should also look into copy rights violations by cable operators.
“The cable operators are also telecasting pirated Indian movies.”
She said after the passage of 18th Amendment, the PPP government would concentrate on solving the problems of the masses.
Meanwhile, NA Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi has termed the passage of 18th Amendment a historic achievement.
Talking to newsmen at the residence of PPP leader Syed Asif Hashmi here on Tuesday, he said President Asif Ali Zardari had fulfilled his promise by making the parliament strong.
He expressed his regrets over the killings in Abottabad and hoped that differences over renaming the NWFP would be removed. He said the Senate would follow the suit in the passage of 18th Amendment.
