GHALLANAI: Tribal elders have criticised the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) for issuing Pakistani identity cards to Afghan refugees living in Baizai subdivision of Mohmand Agency.

Talking to The News on Sunday, tribal elders Malik Ashraf, Malik Zarwali, Malik Fayyaz Khwezai, Malik Ameer Nawaz Halimzai, chief of Manzari Cheena area Malik Sultan and Malik Mohammad Ali Halimzai complained that the Nadra office in Ghallanai, in connivance with the staff at the Nadra office in Baizai, were issuing national identity cards to the Afghan refugees in return for huge money. They said that the matter was time and again brought into the notice of authorities but they did not halt the illegal practice. The tribal elders said they had now convened a grand Jirga tomorrow (Tuesday) to convey anger to the government over the issuance of the Pakistani identity cards to the Afghans.

“Hundreds of registration forms are being issued to the Afghan refugees residing in the Mohmand tribal region for filling and computerised national identity cards aare being issued. But now we have decided to stop this illegal practice at all costs and will not allow aliens to grab our resources,” one of the elders vowed. It was learnt that after the grand Jirga, members of the social welfare organisations would also stage a protest against the illegal practice of Nadra staff.
