On May 13, the National Assembly Secretariat announced new security measures for the Parliament House, citing concerns over congestion and security breaches.
The new standard operating procedures (SOPs) limit entry to essential personnel only and prohibit video recording by TikTokers, vloggers, unaccredited social media activists and YouTubers in the premises of Parliament House. Journalists will no longer be permitted to stop and interview lawmakers in the corridors.
Violators will have their devices confiscated and removed from the premises.
The directive calls for robust security measures to swiftly identify and remove individuals who do not comply with these rules and to seize electronic devices used in unauthorized filming. It also introduces restrictions for Senate pass holders, limiting their access to the National Assembly and enforcing random checks to ensure all entries are properly authorized.
The Ministry of Interior, Islamabad Police, and other relevant law enforcement agencies will work in conjunction with National Assembly security to effectively control the flow of visitors through the external gates of Parliament House.
