QUETTA: A newspaper hawker, Mohammad Ali, was killed and his motorcycle snatched by some unknown men in broad daylight, on Sarki Road, on Sunday.
According to an eyewitness, Mohammad Ali was going to the newspaper market on his motorcycle. When he reached Sarki Road he was intercepted by two armed men who asked him to hand over his bike to them. On his refusal, the bandits opened fire, killing him on the spot. Later, they escaped on his motorcycle in the presence of hundreds of people.
The police have registered a case.
Meanwhile, the president of Jamiat-I-Ittehad Akhbar Faroshan, Mohammad Yousaf Baloch, has condemned the incident and demanded that the killers be arrested within 48 hours otherwise newspaper hawkers would go on strike.
Speaking at a press conference here, he said that during one week, six newspaper hawkers had been deprived of their motorcycles, bicycles, watches and money, but the culprits had not yet been arrested. —
