A Pakistani prisoner, suffering from Schizophrenia, died in a hospital in Indian city of Amritsar three days ago, Amritsar Central Jail Superintendent SP Singh said, reports Times of India.

Mohammad Akram, arrested in February this year after he crossed over to India illegally, died in Government Medical College Hospital due to ill-health, he said. 34-year-old Akram, a resident of Faisalabad in Pakistan, was suffering from Schizophrenia (a sort of mental disorder), Singh said.

Akram crossed into India without valid documents and was arrested by the Punjab Police, he said, adding his case was still pending in a court. The Jail Superintendent said due to his Pakistani nationality, his autopsy could not be done here. On February 12 this year, Pakistani prisoner Khalid Mehmood died and his body was handed over to the border guards on March 10. Khalid came to India to watch a cricket match at Kanpur in April 2005.

Thereafter, he reportedly went missing.
At present, 49 Pakistani prisoners, including four women, are lodged in the Amritsar Central Jail, Singh said, adding they have completed their jail terms.
