KARACHI, June 07 2006: A delegation of local software companies left for India on May 06 morning at the invitation of the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) to attend the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Summit in Banglore. The delegation led by the President of Pakistan Software Houses Association (PASHA), Jehan Ara while leaving for Banglore told Business Recorder that the purpose of the visit is to network with Indian BPO companies and to explore avenues for potential collaboration.
The NASSCOM is the apex-body representing and safeguarding the interests of software and service companies in India. Its main objective is to promote the cause of the Indian software and service industries. They are P@SHA’s counterpart in India.
As India and Pakistan move towards a more cordial relationship, the NASSCOM and P@SHA are keen to collaborate and contribute to the growth and development of the Information Communication Technologies (ICT) industry in the region. Last year, P@SHA inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NASSCOM that would allow leveraging for mutual benefits in the region in ICT.
In this regard, “Some Indian companies have already started outsourcing projects to Pakistani companies”, Jehan Ara said adding “Some of our member companies have actually opened up branch offices in India”. Most of the activity is not being publicised because companies in both countries are not sure of how their respective governments will react to such collaboration, she remarked.
