ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Committee on Judges’ Appointment Monday endorsed the Judicial Commission’s recommendations for regularization of 19 additional judges of the Lahore and Balochistan high courts besides appointment of 14 new judges of these courts.
“The committee, in its meeting, has approved the confirmation of 15 additional judges and appointment of 11 new additional judges for the Lahore High Court and endorsed the confirmation of four additional judges and appointments of three new additional judges for the Balochistan High Court,” Chairman of the Parliamentary body Senator Nayyer Hussain Bokhari told newsmen after chairing the meeting here at the Parliament House.
Bokhari said that Ghaus Bakhsh Mehr and Sabir Baloch were no more members of the Parliamentary Committee as the Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) had withdrawn them. The committee had asked the opposition party to name two members for inclusion into the body so that equal representation could be ensured, he added.
Additional Attorney General AK Agha briefed the meeting about the objections raised by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) after the PML-Q joined the cabinet. The committee’s in-camera meeting was attended among others by Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Asma Arbab, Aftab Shaban Mirani, Ishaq Dar and Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi.
