PESHAWAR, June 07 2006: An inspection team of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) along with local police confiscated equipment of an illegal FM radio station from a Islamic seminary in the Jehangira district of Nowshera on May 05. The Pemra team, led by Regional-General Manager Javed Iqbal Waseer, took the action on a written complaint from Nazim Jehangira union council Habibullah Khan and some other circles that an illegal FM radio station is being run by Maulana Fathehullah and his father Maulana Saeedullah in a Madrassa situated at Mohalla Toheeabad since long to spread sectarian hatred in the community. The regional manager through an official letter informed police high-ups and sought support for legal action.
The Pemra team along with police visited the Madrassa and held negotiations with its administration. The organisers of the Madrassa handed over the equipment of illegal FM radio station to them, says a press release. The Pemra Peshawar office on the directives of the chairman has started a drive against illegal FM radio stations in the settled areas of the NWFP.
