Peshawar Police Banned from Posting on TikTok to Improve Performance and Discipline

Pakistan Press Foundation

On May 30, to enhance the efficiency and professionalism of the police force, Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Kashif Zulfiqar issued an order restricting police personnel from uploading videos on social media platforms, including TikTok.

The notification underscores that even videos showcasing police performance in the line of duty are not exempt from this ban.  “TikTok videos affect the performance of the police [officials],” the order stated.

The SSP’s order warned of strict action against any police personnel violating these instructions.

In December 2023, the Peshawar police had already banned officers from using social media and sharing content on such platforms. SSP Operations Zulfiqar’s letter to the police officers detailed a social media policy, noting that police personnel were involved in various unofficial WhatsApp groups and social media activities.

In September 2022, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police prohibited using smartphones during duty hours to ensure officers remained vigilant and responsive.
