ISLAMABAD (April 27 2008): The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has clarified the report carried by some TV channels on Saturday about its delegation’s meeting with the President, Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), Mian Nawaz Sharif, said Nawaz met some senior journalists at Punjab House to discuss prevailing political situation and judicial crisis.

The PFUJ statement said that Pervaiz Rasheed arranged the meeting and when all journalists reached Punjab House, the organisers requested the President, Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ), Afzal Butt and PFUJ Secretary General, Mazhar Abbas to sit in for a meeting with the PML- leader. Further, the PFUJ Secretary General made it clear that Nawaz wanted to meet some journalists before his departure to Lahore and Rasheed called him to enquire whether it was possible.

He would have invited the Union leaders if the meeting was so desired and the PFUJ certainly intends to hold meeting with the PML-N leader to discuss issues confronting journalists and workers, Abbas added. However, Nawaz was briefed about the issue of non-implementation of 7th Wage Award, controversial Pemra law and safety for the journalists.
