ISLAMABAD (April 17 2008): Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), welcomed the arrest of former Sindh Minister Altaf Unar in the murder of cameraman of KTN, Munir Sangi but feared about his family’s security particularly of his widow after his arrest and demanded protection.
Sangi, the young cameraman was killed in May, 2006 while covering the tribal feud. His family suspected involvement of Altaf Unar and nominated two of his men. Police arrested both but later freed one, allegedly closed to Unar. The latter denied his involvement in the murder.
“We have been demanding fair trial of the case and arrest of the suspects,” it said. Journalists had demanded arrest of all suspects including Altaf Unar and also his sacking as minister so that he could not used his influence on the police. “We only want justice to be done with Sangi’s family and those responsible must be punished,” PFUJ said in a statement.
PFUJ also demanded arrest of those responsible for the murder of Khadim Hussain Sheikh, killed in Hub two days back and also of those responsible for the murder of Zubair Ahmed Mujahid, Chishti Mujahid, killed recently. It also asked the government to public the inquiry reports of the murder of other journalists, killed in the last eight years.
