ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has strongly opposed the demand of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) to extend advertisements of the public sector institutions according to its own sweet will and choice.

According to a handout, the PFUJ said such demand was unethical, unconstitutional, and the APNS had no right to dictate the government to formulate policies only for the pleasure of a particular organisation, ignoring the rights of others. The PFUJ said over 3,000 newspapers and magazines were being published in the country, wondering how the APNS suggested that government sector advertisements be confined only to members of the APNS that were not more than 350.

The PFUJ said the release of government advertisements should be linked to the implementation of the Wage Board Award as well as the labour laws.
