PM Shehbaz Sharif Unveils National AI Push to Drive Pakistan’s Digital Economy

On October 11, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting in Lahore focusing on the enhancement of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the country. The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to leveraging AI for economic development and outlined plans for implementing a robust national AI policy.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif detailed the government’s approach to integrating AI more effectively into the digital economy. He underscored the potential of AI to play a pivotal role in this sector and reaffirmed the execution of the national AI strategy. He stated that the government is working on a priority basis to promote Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence.

To ensure the responsible implementation of AI technologies, the Prime Minister issued directives focusing on data protection and sovereignty. He highlighted the importance of ethical considerations and the responsible use of AI, instructing officials to pay close attention to these aspects during the policy’s execution.

Further solidifying his commitment to AI, Prime Minister Sharif ordered the establishment of a steering committee tasked with the promotion and implementation of AI initiatives. The meeting also disclosed the formation of an AI Advisory Panel, which consists of experts dedicated to guiding the deployment of AI technologies.

These steps are part of a broader effort by the government to foster innovation and modernize Pakistan’s economic infrastructure through advanced technologies. By prioritizing AI, the Prime Minister aims to position Pakistan at the forefront of the digital economy in the region.
