QUETTA, April 25: Journalists on Sunday ended a boycott of police department functions following suspension of four policemen and formation of a committee to investigate alleged manhandling of a reporter by police on Friday.
Provincial minister Mir Sadiq Umrani announced the suspension of four officials of the Brewery police station who were allegedly involved in the manhandling of Mustafa Tareen, the bureau chief of a private TV channel.
Taking notice of a sit-in staged by journalist outside the Chief Minister’s secretariat, the chief minister sent Mr Umrani to the police station who announced suspension of the officials.
The chief minister formed a committee headed by commissioner of Quetta division Mir Naseem Lehri to probe the matter and submit a report.
Earlier, the commissioner Lehri, secretary of information Azam Baloch, director public relations Noor Khan held negotiations with representatives of journalists in press club and agreed to settle the issue amicably.
