Pakistan Press Foundation expresses concern at the hacking of Geo News satellite, which resulted in the display of an inappropriate message during its prime time 9 pm news bulletin on March 1.
Media reports and videos suggest that the broadcast of Samaa TV and ARY News was also hacked.
According to Geo, over the course of 24 hours, “certain elements” had attempted to hack Geo, which is broadcast via Paksat satellite. Geo noted that the nature of the message displayed on the screen appeared to be the “work of anti-Pakistan elements.”
The statement, shared by Geo Managing Director Azhar Abbas, added that the channel had no connection to the content that was aired and called on authorities to take notice of the incident, investigate it and bring those responsible to justice.
According to Dawn, the National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) has launched a formal investigation into the cyberattacks.
