‘PPP never imposed restrictions on media’

Karachi–Advisor to Chief Minister for Information Jameel Ahmed Soomro said Pakistan Peoples Party knows how to rule the country but impediments are being created in its way.

PPP never imposed restrictions on Press because freedom of Press and PPP go together, he said while speaking as chief guest at a seminar on World Press Freedom Day organized by CPNE here Tuesday.

Soomro said the PPP had always led all the movements launched for workers, journalists and other segments of society and foundation for that struggle was laid by Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto when he rose against a dictator.

The Advisor pointed out the media never enjoyed as much freedom as it had today and it had been due to continuous struggle of journalists who too always been raising their voice for the deprived people.

He said Sindh Information department is preparing a plan in collaboration with journalist organizations for the welfare of families of martyr journalists and any suggestion in this regard would be welcomed.

He told the seminar the PPP never used advertisements as a lever against newspapers. But all journalistic forums should condemn the language being used in certain newspapers against President Asif Ali Zardari, he said.

Soomro said PPP is the party of martyrs and the workers get inspiration from their leadership.

On this occasion CPNE office-bearers Ilyas Shakir, Shaheen Qureshi, Aamir Mahmoood, Javaid Meher Shamsi, Dr. Jabbar Khattak, Mahmood ul Aziz, Mukhtar Aqil, Touseef Ahmed, Qazi Asad Abid and others also spoke.
