Press clubs and journalists’ unions elect new office-bearers in Chitral, Swat and Bannu

Journalists’ bodies in Chitral, Swat and Bannu have concluded their annual elections, with new leadership elected unopposed for press clubs and journalists’ unions in the three districts. The elections resulted in the selection of office-bearers for the Chitral Press Club, the Swat Press Club, the Swat Union of Journalists and the Bannu Press Club.

In the annual elections of the Chitral Press Club, Zaheeruddin of Daily Dawn was elected president. Saifur Rehman Aziz of Samaa News was elected senior vice president, while Mian Asif Ali Shah of PTV was elected vice president. Other office-bearers included Abdul Ghaffar of Daily Jihad as general secretary, Noor Afzal Khan of Daily Aaj as finance secretary, and Syed Nazir Hussain Shah of ARY News as office secretary. All positions were filled unopposed.

Meanwhile, the annual elections for the year 2026 of the Swat Press Club and the Swat Union of Journalists were completed on December 30, with all office-bearers also elected unopposed.

For the Swat Press Club, Fazal Rahim Khan of Daily Maidan was elected chairman, Umar Farooq Khan of Daily Shamal vice chairman, and Adnan Bacha of Khyber News general secretary. Murad Ali Khan of Dawn TV was elected deputy general secretary, Abdul Salam of Daily Paighamat joint secretary, and Iftikhar Ahmed of Daily Azadi finance secretary.

In the Swat Union of Journalists, Shahzad Alam of Daily Aaj and ARY News was elected president, while Shiraz Khan of Express News was elected vice president. Muhammad Hayat Chaman of ABN News was elected general secretary, Khawaja Irfan deputy general secretary, and Hakim Usman Ali of Daily Chand finance secretary.

Separately, the Bannu Press Club announced the election of a new 17-member cabinet during a meeting chaired by newly elected president Pir Niaz Ali Shah. Muhammad Sohail Khan was named general secretary, while Inayatullah Khattak was nominated as patron-in-chief.

Other office-bearers of the Bannu Press Club include Fareed Niazi as senior vice president and Zahid Muhammad, Rofan, and Qasim Ahmed as vice presidents. Shahid Khan was appointed deputy general secretary, Naseeb Zahid finance secretary, and Mehboob ur Rehman deputy finance secretary and chairman. Imran Ali Nashad was named joint secretary.

Nasrullah Khan was appointed chairman of the executive council, with Muhammad Khitab Khan, Khan Zameer, and Rufan nominated as members. Rifatullah Qureshi was appointed information secretary, while Asif Imran was assigned the role of contact secretary. For legal affairs, Bahram Shahzada, advocate, and Muhammad Waseem Khan were appointed as legal advisers, and Karim Ullah Khan Mehsood was named administrator to oversee administrative matters.
