The Press Council of Pakistan (PCP) Chairman, Arshad Khan Jadoon, reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to uphold freedom of expression and media ethics in a meeting with prominent journalist leaders on July 11.
During the meeting, the delegation included President of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) Afzal Butt, President of the Islamabad High Court Journalists Association Fayaz Mahmood, and former Presidents Asad Malik, Aamir Saeed Abbasi, and Saqib Bashir. Other notable attendees were Senior Vice President Hussain Chaudhry, Finance Secretary Shehzad Ali Raja, Ikhtisham Kiani, Aamir Baloch, Ibrahim Abbasi, Idrees Abbasi, Additional Secretary Adil Saeed Abbasi, and Rizwan Qazi.
Chairman Jadoon briefed the delegation on the PCP’s objectives and mission, emphasizing the Council’s dedication to addressing the issues of the journalist community as a top priority.
Fayaz Mahmood, President of the Islamabad High Court Journalists Association, congratulated Jadoon on his appointment and outlined the challenges faced by journalists, including threats to their safety and restrictions on press freedom. He called for collective efforts to create a safer and more supportive environment for the media.
Afzal Butt, President of PFUJ, commended Jadoon for his proactive approach in making the Press Council a dynamic institution. He assured the Chairman of the full support of the journalistic community in these endeavors.
In response, Chairman Jadoon expressed his gratitude to the delegation and reiterated the PCP’s unwavering support for journalistic organizations.
