FAISALABAD, Nov 25: Deputy Inspector General Abid Saeed has ordered an inquiry into the police raid on the offices of a weekly and use of torture against newsmen, and made ASP (City) Muhammad Naeem the inquiry officer.
The victims, Abid Nawab Toor, Yasir Nawab and Muhammad Naeem, had lodged a formal complaint with the DIG, claiming that Sargodha Road police had raided their office, damaged the furniture and rounded them up without justification.
They also claimed that the police had subjected them to physical torture at the police station, which, they said, was confirmed by a board headed by the medical superintendent of DHQ Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Faisalabad Union of Journalists, at a meeting presided over by Muhammad Yousaf, has threatened to stage a protest demonstration in case the Sargodha Road policemen involved in the incident are not suspended immediately.
