Protection of human rights stressed

KHAIRPUR – The Prisoners and Orphans Welfare Association, Khairpur, organised a seminar on “Human Rights and Fundamental Legal Rights” at the Higher Secondary School, Hussainabad, in collaboration with the Indus Resource Centre (IRC) in Khairpur.

Addressing the seminar, EDO (Law) District Attorney Khairpur Abdul Sattar Bhanmbhro said there is need to protect human right in Pakistan and around the world. He said that on December 10, 1948 the United Nations formed human rights institution to curb human rights violations, but in Pakistan, police are violating the rights and harassing citizens. He said there is a dire need to make police public servant and on the other side there is also need for self-accountability.

Advocate Javed Mirani said that Karo Kari, violence against women and other so-called traditions of forced labour, forced marriage were defaming Pakistan’s image in world.

Advocate Din Muhammad Shah, President Prisoners and Orphans Welfare Association, said that his association was working to protect human rights, especially rights of prisoners and orphans. IRC Coordinator Naveed Khiyal said that IRC was struggling for the promotion of education in the far-flung areas of the province.
