PTA, Ericsson sign statement of interest

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Ericsson Pakistan have signed a statement of interest for prospective information communication technologies initiatives to be carried out by the two organisations.

In a ceremony held at the PTA Headquarters, Dr Mohammed Yaseen Chairman, PTA and Mohsen Tavakol, President, Ericsson Pakistan (Pvt) Limited signed the statement.

The statement of interest was signed in relation with International Telecommunication Union (ITU) theme of “Better city, better life with ICTs’ for this yearís World Telecom and Information Society Day (WTISD).”

The two entities would announce “PTA-Ericsson Mobile Excellence Award” by July 2010, the statement said.

The objective of this award is to honour students, who developed the most innovative user generated or professionally produced content and, or application in the areas of entertainment, social networking, online communities and location-based services.

PTA and Ericsson along with other stakeholders would also form an “Expert Group” in different areas related to the telecommunication technologies and services.

“Ericsson Speaker Programmeî in partnership with PTA would try to facilitate knowledge sharing between telecom professionals and academia.

Speakers from Ericsson and PTA will create awareness of leading technologies and share experiences that can assist students keep pace with the emerging technologies, t5he statement said.

PTA would participate in “Ericsson Graduate Programme”, it said. Ericsson’s graduate trainee programme would be helpful in keeping the academia abreast of the technological developments and also in providing good start for new graduates to build a solid foundation for a bright future career, it said.

The two organisations would also organise an event on “50 billion connected devices by 2020” in July.
