The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced specific deadlines for blocking SIM cards linked to invalid Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) in a bid to enhance national security.

SIMs linked to canceled CNICs will be blocked by August 16, 2024, while those registered with expired CNICs, especially those that have not been renewed since 2017, will be blocked after September 2, 2024.

SIMs registered under deceased individuals’ CNICs will be deactivated by October 15, 2024. Users can have these SIMs transferred to their own names by presenting the original death certificate of the deceased individual.

To transfer SIMs from deceased individuals, users are required to present the original death certificate. The PTA has launched a public information campaign to inform users, with mobile operators instructed to notify customers via SMS and other communication channels.
