RAWALPINDI: A renowned media person and controller programme of Pakistan Television Corporation Aun Muhammad Rizvi was killed early on Thursday by unidentified motorcyclists in the latest acts of sectarian violence that has killed more than two dozen in a week.

The gunmen who dared security measures intruded into Aun’s house and escaped by leaving him in a pool of blood. Two of the three motorcyclists rang door bell of Rizvi’s house while their third accomplice waited outside the house. As Rizvi, a Shia Muslim, opened the gate of his house, the two unidentified persons, who are said to be in their- 20s, pushed him inside and sprayed rounds of bullets on him, the sons of the deceased told the Police.

Soaked in blood, Rizvi was removed to the Holy Family Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Later, the body was shifted to the DHQ hospital for autopsy.

“The motorcyclists were seen around the house of Rizvi for more than thirty minutes and finally they rang the door bell a few minutes before 8 am. Later, they escaped on a motorbike after Playing havoc inside the house,” the’ deputy commissioner Rawalpindi Shamial Ahmed Khawaja told The News quoting some eye witnesses.

“Despite taking extensive security measures, we cannot control the terrorism 100 percent,” remarked.

Other reports said an unknown person posing himself an electrician made a telephone call to Rizvi sometimes before the incident happened and asked him that he was just reaching his house for repairing the antenna. Later the caller who did not identify himself put off the telephone.

Police officials closed to the investigation said that no such person (electrician) has reached there even after the killing. Police believe that the telephone caller might be one of the mastermind who made the telephone call to check their target. However, police made some sketches and photographs of suspects and took some suspicious persons into custody but non has been charged.

An FIR of the incident was registered on the complaint of Qasim Rizvi, son of the victim. Panic and fear triggered the citizens as the news of terrorist act broke out in the city.

Late night reports said that the motorbike allegedly used by the terrorists was found abandoned from The Mall road. According to police, the motorcycle which was bearing the registration plate no SGH-4900 was snatched from its owner from New Town police area on September 22.

The latest wave of sectarian terrorism which has travelled across Punjab, of late, seems to leave its bloody marks in Rawalpindi now where the police and district management is helpless in doing any creditable job.
