On June 24, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz ordered actions against individuals involved in spreading hateful and sectarian content on social media, particularly during the sensitive period of Muharram.

Chairing a high-level meeting to review Muharram security preparations, the chief minister instructed law enforcement agencies to remain vigilant and take swift action to ensure peace and order throughout the province. “Those found involved in spreading hateful content on social media should be arrested forthwith,” she said.

The meeting was called to assess emergency arrangements for Muharram and to ensure preventive measures are in place amid heightened security concerns. In a bid to curb incitement and sectarian tensions, the chief minister imposed a strict ban on wall-chalking, posters, and banners containing divisive messages.

The chief minister concluded by urging all departments to adopt a unified and resolute approach in safeguarding the sanctity and security of Muharram observances.
