To improve the welfare and living conditions of journalists, a key meeting was held in Lahore, under the chairmanship of Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari. The focus was on the ongoing development of the Journalist Housing Society Lahore and broader journalist welfare initiatives.
During the meeting, it was resolved that the auction of the society’s commercial areas would be conducted through the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), supervised by the Punjab Journalists Housing Foundation (PJHF), to ensure transparency. The LDA’s architectural team is scheduled to visit the site shortly to develop proposals that guarantee a high-quality and transparent completion of the project.
Officials from LDA, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), and the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) provided detailed briefings on the current progress of the Lahore Press Club Housing Scheme. Azma Bokhari instructed that all development projects should adhere to the highest standards of quality and transparency and must be completed within the designated timelines.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, Bokhari stated that the Punjab Government is fully committed to providing journalists with dignified, secure, and modern residential facilities. She emphasized the need for a transparent policy by LDA for the fair and efficient use of resources.
Additionally, Bokhari announced upcoming infrastructure enhancements, including the construction of a new bridge over the canal in front of Journalist Colony to alleviate traffic congestion. Directives were also issued to WASA to finalize the incomplete water linkage system promptly.
The meeting saw the attendance of key figures, including Secretary Information Syed Tahir Raza Hamdani, DG LDA Tahir Farooq, MD WASA Ghafran Ali, and President Lahore Press Club Arshad Ansari, among others.
