PESHAWAR (April 15 2008): The NWFP Minister for Social Welfare, Women Development and Special Education Sitara Ayaz has ordered complete ban on the registration of new Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and announced classification and categorisation of all the existing ones in the province.
The minister announced that scrutiny and monitoring committees would be constituted at district level to evaluate the performance of all the NGOs. She said that those NGOs in the district which work actively for the welfare of people would be encouraged while those bringing bad name to the community would be discouraged.
The NGOs with poor performance would be given warning and those failing in improvement will be banned forthwith and no recommendation would be considered in this connection. She said that District Committees would comprise District Administration, representatives of Social Welfare Dept and other concerned quarters.
