Report sought in two human rights abuse cases

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Monday sought reports from the Ministry of Housing and Works secretary and the Sindh PPO on two separate human rights violation cases.

The chief justice took suo moto notice on an application submitted by Muhammad Anas, a resident of Islamabad, therein he stated that he was allotted a flat in Sector I-9/4 in 2006, but the flat was in illegal possession of Muhammad Younus, a senior cameraman of the PTV.

The appeal of Younus to occupy the flat has been dismissed by the Islamabad High Court, but he is still residing in the flat without paying any rent to the Estate Office, Anas said in the application.

The chief justice sought a report from the secretary within two weeks. The chief justice took another suo moto notice on the application by Ayaz Ali Channa and others, residents of Jamshoro, Sindh.

They said in their application that their parents, aunt and an infant brother had been kidnapped by police officers. They said they had tried to lodge an FIR against the police officers but all in vain. They prayed for justice. On their application, the chief justice sought a report from the Sindh PPO till May 20.
