KARACHI: Various political parties, leaders and trade union representatives have strongly condemned the illegal detention of The News staff reporter Moosa Kaleem and demanded of the authorities to ascertain facts and take stern action against the responsible policemen.
MQM Co-ordination Committee member and parliamentary leader of Haq Parast Group in National Assembly, Sheikh Liaqat Hussain said that the biased police adopted un-ethical, unlawful and inhuman tactics against the working journalist. He said that the Chief Justice of Pakistan, President and Chief of the Army Staff should take notice of this grave violation of human rights in the case of Moosa Kaleem.
Former Sindh Chief Minister and a PPP leader, Senator Syed Qaim Ali Shah, said that the illegal detention of working journalist had exposed cruelty on the part of Nawaz Sharif government.
Secretary Information of PPP Karachi Division, Habibuddin Junaidi, PPP Federal Council Member, Senator Rashid Hussain Rabbani and Wiqar Mehdi in their statements, termed the action as “victimization” of the whole journalist community.
Jammat-e-Islami leader Sarfraz Ahmed demanded of the authorities concerned to take immediate action against the responsible policemen who detained and tortured young journalist, Moosa Kaleem. Leader of All Pakistan Federation of Trade Unions, Syed Hameed Ahmed, Pakistan Railway Workers Inqilabi Union leader, Manzoor Ahmed Razi and other labour leaders said that the ‘kidnapping and detention’ of Moosa Kaleem by the police was a serious matter that exposed the undemocratic face of the Nawaz Sharif government against journalism and freedom of expression.
They demanded of the government to take serious action against responsible police officers.
