KOHAT: A jirga in the district’s Shakardarra area has held a provincial minister and his four relatives responsible for the kidnapping of a woman from the area a few days ago.
MPA Dr Iqbal Din Fana, announcing the jirga decision on Monday, asked the minister to pay Rs8 million as fine, sacrifice 10 cows and bring elders from Karak in 40 vehicles to offer apology to the family of the kidnapped woman, Nabeela, and the villagers to restore their honour.
The jirga comprising elders of the area discussed the case in which provincial Minister for Prisons Mian Nisar Gul Kakakhel, his two brothers and two cousins had been booked for kidnapping the wife of one Asif from her house in Shakardarra last week.
Sources told Dawn that private and police guards of the minister who were accompanying him at the time of the kidnapping and were later detained from his hujra in Karak by the Kohat police would be released after implementation of the jirga decisions. Police had taken into custody several police and private guards of the minister and put them in the lockups of City, Bilitang and other police stations in Kohat.
Once the verdict of the jirga was accepted, the sources said, the mother of the kidnapped woman would withdraw the FIR lodged against the minister and his four relatives.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan, taking suo motu notice of the matter on Friday had asked police officers of the Kohat region to submit progress report of the case at the earliest and take stern action against the kidnappers.
The Supreme Court had directed Kohat DIG Abdullah Khan and District Police Officer Dilawar Khan Bangash to take action against provincial Minister for Prisons Mian Nisar Gul Kakakhel, his two brothers Mayyar Gul and Mian Babul, and cousins Mian Usman Gul and Mian Irshad Gul in the kidnapping case registered in the Shakardarra police station.
The officials had been ordered to ensure immediate recovery of the woman, Nabeela, who had been allegedly kidnapped by the five accused nominated in the FIR.
The mother of Nabeela had nominated the minister and his four relatives in the FIR.
After the suo motu notice by the Supreme Court, the jirga was held in Shakardarra to find a peaceful solution to the matter.
