KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said on Tuesday that the new city of Zulfikarabad should reflect the aspiration of the people of the province.
He said this while presiding over a meeting to review the progress of the Zulfikarabad project.
Mr Shah directed the officials concerned to intensify efforts for the completion of the project.
He said the new city would be developed on modern lines with basic facilities to local inhabitants and investors in the housing, education, health, fishing, agriculture and industrial sectors.
Director General of the Zulfikarabad Development Authority Fazalur Rehman told the meeting that Rs90 million had been received by the authority, but still more money was needed to develop the new city.
He also presented a report on the project and informed the meeting that prior to 1996, the coastal land of Thatta district was dry but since then it was being eroded by the sea.
He said that President Asif Ali Zardari had directed him to submit land survey details of the coastal belt prior to 1996 and after 1997.
He said that Pakistan Navy will conduct a survey of land under water and Suparco had been asked to furnish maps of the coastal belt prior to 1996 and after 1997.
The rules and regulations for the project were also considered and approved by the governing council of the ZDA.
